Stop Smoking Services - FAQ

This section has answers to frequently asked questions about stop smoking services and the help and support you can get to quit. The answers are general as stop smoking clinics will vary to meet the needs of particpants.

1. How long will I get support for?

The support programme officially lasts for 7 weeks, but may be extended should the patient feel extra support would be beneficial.

3. How do I get an appointment?

You can contact the Smoking Cessation Advisor for your area directly or you can contact your GP surgery. Some areas have a waiting list but we will do our best to offer an appointment as early as possible.

4. How does NRT or Zyban help?

Smokers are addicted to the nicotine in cigarettes. By using a nicotine replacement therapy product you will gradually becomes used to a decreasing level of nicotine.

5. What chance do I have of stopping smoking?

Research has shown that by using NRT or Zyban in your quit attempt it doubles your chances of stopping.

6. How much will it cost to get Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT), or Zyban?

If you pay for prescriptions, you will be supplied with each 4-week supply of NRT for the price of a single prescription charge.
