Stress is a physical and/or emotional reaction that happens when we believe that the pressures placed upon us are greater than our ability to cope with them. Stress is not always bad, for example it can help us to survive danger, perform well in an exam or interview or simply get things done. The build up of stress, without the chance to recover, can however lead to many adverse physical and emotional reactions, can damage relationships with friends and family and can have a negative effect on the way we think and feel about ourselves and others.
